The other day my friend text me asking what course he should go on to study as a complete beginner to business. I had a think and came back with the following:
I think the first thing that is very important to remember is that no matter what you have or haven’t studied, anyone can set up a business and become a successful entrepreneur if they put their mind to it. Personally I found that University wasn’t my cup of tea and that I thrived by learning from the world around me.
I told my friend; “In this modern world everything is moving so quickly that by the time you’ve finished a course it’s going to be outdated.” Elon Musk famously said you can learn any skill in a couple of months for free on YouTube, and I’m a firm believer in that. I went to University for 3 years to study business and management and there’s very little that I now use on a daily basis. Things like accounting have definitely helped when it comes to running my business, but I could have easily gone online and learned how to do accounting through a course specific to my needs and saved myself 3 years. I don’t think that there is any course that can make you a successful entrepreneur, it’s based on you as a person and how you choose to take on the business world. Now that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go on a business course, for some learning in this style can be super helpful. If you feel the need to do so and want to learn everything a course can offer, then that’s great and can open a whole host of opportunities.
All I want you to know is that in my honest opinion, the only thing that matters is your self-perseverance. How hard are you willing to work to make your business successful? That’s the only thing you need to do.
